Centennial Park is a 192 acre area offering fun activities and events for local families. The park has some areas which are free and other areas which require a fee, along with a reservation.
The Aquatic Center has a family water park offering a zero-depth pool with a surrounding deck and lounge area perfect for playing with smaller children. There are two slides: one is 328 feet long and the other is 200 feet long. There is also a platform cliff jump and drop slide by the lazy river, which is made up of numerous bends and waterfalls. No glass is allowed in the water park, but they do offer food and drinks at a snack booth.
There is a Dog park called the Dogout where you can take your dog, so they can run around with other dogs off leash. There is a Skate Park called Grinding Edge if you like to skateboard.
Fishing, kayak and pedal boat rentals are available at Lake Sedgewick located within the Centennial Park Complex. Rentals are available from 12pm-8pm every day of the week, including Saturday and Sunday. You must be 14 years of age or older to operate a pedal boat, sitting on laps is not permitted and no one under the age of 5 years old is permitted. You must be 12 years of age or older to operate a kayak and on one under the age of 8 years old can use one. All rentals are on a first come, first served basis.
There are 9 baseball and softball fields, 7 soccer fields, 2 horseshoe areas and 2 sand volleyball courts, so you have a ton of options to play sports and stay active.
2 fishing piers are available with a two pole limit. Catch and release is encouraged and some species of fish have daily limits. A valid Illinois fishing license is required for anglers 16 years of age and older. You are prohibited from taking frogs, turtles and mussels. You are also prohibited from fished off of boat docks at the boat launch and from using seine or nets.
If you are looking to enjoy nature and get some exercise, there are many paths for walking and biking. If you are looking to cook up some good food and have some fun with friends or family, there are pavilions and grills.There is also a playground called Kevin Hertz Memorial, so you have even more fun activities to do with your kids.
The amount of activities available are almost endless. There is even an ice rink for ice skating!
