We decided we would like to say goodbye to our sweet lab Bella in our home where she would feel more comfortable rather than a vet office. We called Dr. Karie & Joe, and they were able to come out that evening. They did a exceptional job of making the process as caring and smooth as we could ask. Both Dr. Karie & Joe were 100% attentive to our feelings and concerns. It was a beautiful way to say goodbye to a wonderful dog who was a member of our family. Thank you very much.

Dr. Kari and Joe were absolutely amazing when they came to my parents home to humanely and lovingly put our sweet family dog to sleep. My kids and nephews were in attendance and it was so much more than i could have imagined. I highly recommend them for this and for any service if you are in the market for a kind, and informative veterinarian.

We have had Dr. Karie and Joe to our home twice in the last month. We had to put our beautiful boy down and chose their service of at home euthanasia. They made a horrific event so much more peaceful. They are both caring and explained everything that was going on. They also gave us plenty of time to say goodbye to our fur baby. We appreciated them so much we called them over today to vaccinate our 2 very hard to handle cats. It took some time but we got the job done. We would have had to sedate our rescued “somewhat feral” cats to bring them in. This was 100% better. Thanks so much for your time and compassion Dr. Karie!

I am so grateful for Dr Karie and Joe for their in home service, their gentleness and their genuine care for pets and their parents. My beloved dog of 15 years was losing his battle with heart disease and his time was coming soon. I contacted VIP Vet Visit and set up a possible day for later in the week. The very next day his back legs were extremely weak and he could barely stand up.

Dr Karie and Joe were so kind to come to my home that evening and help me say goodbye to my fur baby. Their presence is very calming, everything was explained so there were no surprises, and you can tell they genuinely care. I am so glad the in home service exists so my dog’s last moments were spent in the comfort of his own home, not in the scary vets office. While the day was extremely difficult for the whole family, VIP Vet visit allowed us to say goodbye in the most comforting way possible. Thanks again.

I thank my lucky stars for the Google search that led me to VIP Vet. I emailed VIP in the middle of the night, and they were at my dying dog’s side by 9 AM. Dr. Karie and Joe made this very difficult farewell a most lovely memory I will always cherish. Their compassion is genuine and they treated me and my sweet old dog like family. They explained everything clearly and with great care and understanding. Their gentle approach and delicate ways of caring for my dog and me just warmed my heart. Within moments, I felt as if they were family too.

Joe and Karie have thought of every possible detail, down to an angel winged blanket and flowered gurney to transport my dog to the crematorium. Because I had to leave back to Montana, they were able to get my dog’s ashes to me the very same day.I’ve never put a pet down before. I could never consider doing it another way or with anyone else than VIP Vet. The keepsakes they lovingly gifted to me will remind me of my beloved pet and VIP. They are Angels!

To help determine the quality of life for your pet, you can use our Quality of Life Calculator below. This tool is an objective test to help provide you with additional insight on your pet’s overall condition, more clarity on what you should do and greater reassurance for your decision during a time that is often very difficult and confusing.

9-12: Quality of Life Is Normal

Your pet’s quality of life is being managed appropriately.

Your pet’s diseases are completely under control. You are doing a wonderful job keeping them comfortable with the best quality of life possible. Continue to monitor your pet for changes in comfort and speak with your veterinarian about your specific concerns for their overall Quality of Life now and for the future.

6-8: Quality of Life Requires Attention

Your pet’s quality of life could use some help.

Your pet could benefit from additional medication or therapies. Changes in environment and enrichment could make a large impact on their Quality of Life. Speak to your veterinarian about your concerns and areas of your pet’s life that could use some improvement. Your veterinarian will help you make any necessary changes to your pet’s medical therapies, environment, and enrichment.

0-5: Quality of Life Justifies Hospice/Euthanasia

Your pet’s quality of life is poor.

We here at VIP Vet Visit believe that their last day with us should be one of their best days.

Euthanasia Appointment Overview

Euthanasia Appointment Overview

Dr. Karie, along with an assistant, will travel to your home (serving the south Chicago suburbs), so you and your pet can remain in a peaceful, comfortable and private environment. All of your love and focus can be directed towards your furry family member during this emotional time. The entire appointment is typically 1 hour long, which gives her the opportunity to work at a relaxed pace without rushing through any part of the process.

Dr. Karie will begin the appointment by providing an overview of the euthanasia procedure. She takes as much time as you want to discuss any of your questions or concerns. The entire process is individually tailored towards your preferences, interest level and comfort.

Once you are ready for the procedure to begin, your pet will receive a sedative under the skin that consists of a pain-reliever mixed with a heavy sedative to help them feel calm and comfortable. As the sedative takes effect, usually within a few minutes, you can typically notice your pet’s pain slip away as they continue to relax.

Once you and your pet are relaxed and at peace, you’ll have as much time as desired to share one last memory together. After receiving your permission to proceed, Dr. Karie then administers a second injection with an overdose of anesthesia that will typically make your pet go to sleep within 60 seconds.

Lastly, a third injection of angel juice is administered that first effects their brain and respiratory center. This rapidly stops their breathing before stopping their heart and giving them their angel wings.

The entire process is very peaceful for your beloved family member. After your pet has passed, you can continue to spend as much time with them as needed. As a memorial keepsake, we offer a clay paw print for you to keep after your final goodbye, along with a personalized glass jar containing a lock of your pet’s hair – free of charge. If cremation is elected, we transport your pet out of the home in a custom carrier lined with fresh rose petals and can include their favorite toy or blanket.
